Superior Propane has tips to help you protect your home or business
Superior Propane has generations of experience in serving the propane needs of homes and businesses here in northern Arizona. We see our customers not just as account numbers in a computer but as our friends and neighbors. With that in mind, we have always maintained the highest standards for safety when it comes to propane delivery and service.
What should I do if I smell gas?
We are dedicated to consumer safety, we want you to know what you need to do so you can protect your loved ones, your home or your business if you smell gas in any building, RV, camper or area near propane gas equipment.
Propane is naturally odorless, but an odorant is added to make it easy to detect, the smell is often likened to that of rotten eggs.
The steps we provide here are essential for protecting not only property, but lives. These steps need to be taken without delay if you do detect the rotten-egg smell of gas.
- Get yourself and everyone else out of the house, building or area where you smell gas IMMEDIATELY!
- Extinguish any source of ignition, such as open flames or lit cigarettes or cigars
- DO NOT use electric switches, telephones or thermostats until you’re safely clear of the area
- If you can safely reach the gas shutoff valve on the propane tank or cylinder, turn it off
- When you’re safely away from the area where you smelled gas, use your mobile phone or a neighbor’s phone to contact Superior Propane or emergency personnel
- Even if you don’t smell propane gas anymore, don’t go back and don’t try to turn on the propane safety valve
- Give propane service technicians and/or emergency personnel time to check for escaped propane gas, repair the source of the leak and make sure everything is safe
- After the leak is repaired, the propane service technician has to carefully inspect all gas appliances and relight all gas appliance pilots
- Wait for the service technician or emergency personnel to give the OK to return
